CAE Network Drive Issues

Symptom. Word or Excel or the Fax Viewer cannot read the I: drive.

Assumptions:

The PC with the problem is running Client Access Express, which requires the
PC to obtain its network drives via Windows, specifically Windows Network
Neighborhood. This type of configuration is currently being propagated
throughout the company.

This problem happens under one of the circumstances listed below. It is
unlikely to happen for a fixed user PC on the Token Ring LAN at Emeryville.

(1) You have recently changed your AS/400 password.

(2) The PC you are using has multiple users who sign on, eg the PC in the
classroom.

(3) You are connecting remotely via RAS dial up or through the Internet.

How to fix

If you go to Windows Explorer and attempt to open the I: drive, it reports
the drive is not accessible.

Action. From the Desktop, open the Windows Network Neighborhood window.

For remote users only

If you have an icon for 10.1.1.1, double click on it and wait until another
window opens. Most remote users will have this icon, most local LAN users
will not.

You may get a logon window, if so log on using your AS/400 password.

If the logon fails, retry once, if that also fails, you need to go to a
PC5250 emulation session on APPINTEC, navigate to a command line, and key in
CHGPRF <Enter>.

Then go back to the Windows Network Neighborhood logon screen and attempt
the logon again. This time it will work.

For all users, local and remote

Then double click on the Qappintec icon, and wait until its window opens.

Finish off!

Close all superfluous windows.

Go back to the Windows Explorer window and open the I: drive.

Go back to your application and retry the open which failed originally.

Everything is now fine.
